The Olympic opening ceremony will take place on February 4. The first competitions of the Games in Beijing start on February 2. The first sets of medals will be contested on February 5. The last competition day and the closing ceremony are scheduled for February 20.

Russian hockey players won their first Olympic match, beating Switzerland
Today skier Natalya Nepryayeva became the silver medalist in the skiathlon at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.
In the first medal event of the Games Nepryayeva lost by half a minute (+30.2 sec) to Norwegian Therese Johaug.
This medal became the first for the Russian team in Beijing.
It was impossible to beat the Norwegian Johaug, but Natalia distanced herself from everyone else!…
Russian biathletes won bronze at the Olympics in the mixed relay
The Russian national team in biathlon won the bronze medal in the mixed relay at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
Members of the team were Ulyana Nigmatullina, Kristina Reztsova, Alexander Loginov and Eduard Latypov.
The team moved into the lead after Loginov’s leg. On the final lap Latypov fought for the gold, but Norwegian Johannes Bø and Frenchman Quentin Fillon Maillet outpaced him on the straight.
This is the second medal for the Russian team at the Beijing Games after skier Natalia Nepryaeva’s silver in the skiathlon.

Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva won the women’s short program of the team event at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.
The Russian received a score of 90.18 points for her skate, which was the best result in the competition.
“Did the Americans give me a standing ovation? Very nice, they are the athletes who understand how to skate. Very nice that they all liked it. Not only the Americans – the Canadians, other teams. It’s inspiring,” Valieva said.

Bolshunov brought Russia its first gold of the 2022 Games, winning the skiathlon; Spitsov took silver
Cross‑country skier Aleksandr Bolshunov won the skiathlon and brought the Russian team its first Olympic gold medal of the 2022 Beijing Games.
Bolshunov completed 30 km (15 km classic and 15 km skate) in 1 hour 16 minutes 9.8 seconds. The silver was won by another Russian Denis Spitsov, who fell 1.5 km before the finish. The podium was completed by Finnish Iivo Niskanen.
For 25‑year‑old Bolshunov this is his first Olympic gold; at the 2018 Games he won three silvers and one bronze.
Spitsov’s medal was the second silver and the fourth medal for the Russian team at the Beijing Olympics. On Saturday skier Natalia Nepryaeva won silver in the skiathlon, and the Russian biathletes took bronze in the mixed relay.
The Winter Olympic Games in the Chinese capital will run until February 20.

Russia won silver in team ski jumping at the Olympics
The Russian national team won silver in the team ski jumping event at the Olympic Games.
The Russian team featured Evgeny Klimov, Danil Sadreev, Irina Makhinya, and Arina Avvakumova.
Slovenia took first place, and Canada rounded out the top three.
As a result, Russian Olympians have two golds, three silvers, and two bronzes in their medal haul. Russia is in second place in the medal standings, behind only Sweden.
This is the first Olympic medal in ski jumping in Russia’s history.

The first individual race for the Russian team unexpectedly turned out so disastrous that it took us back to the “dark” times of Russian biathlon. Nigmatullina missed 10 times, Burtasova lost 4.5 minutes on skis. The only bright spot for the Russian team was Kristina Reztsova, who suddenly almost became an Olympic champion. She fought seriously for the win, but lost it because of one extra miss.
Complete failure
It seems Nigmatullina, whom we saw in the mixed relay, stayed in the mixed. Because today we didn’t see any remotely adequate shooting or a fairly fast pace from the Russian. Ulyana botched the shooting and made a total of 10 misses: four prone and six standing. Interestingly, the number of misses increased by one at each shooting stage. No one in the race missed more than Nigmatullina.
Annoying mistake
Kristina Reztsova had good chances for a medal today, which lasted almost until the end of the race. Accurate shooting on the first two ranges and being in the top three on skis helped the Russian. Before the second prone Kristina was in third place, but she “shot herself out,” making two misses. Those decided her fate. As a result – she was pushed out of the top 15. Reztsova was accurate on the final standing.
The leader of the Russian team had a great ski pace: sixth on skis, 50 seconds down. As a result – ninth place at the finish and 1 minute 13 seconds behind. That makes the mistake even more painful, because if Kristina had even one miss fewer, she would have been fighting not just for a medal, but maybe even for the victory. But we weren’t expecting a good race from just one Kristina – from the whole team. After the individual, only one question remains in my head: “How could this happen?”
The next race, the women’s sprint, will take place on February 11. We hope the Russian women can redeem themselves after this failure, and Reztsova – fight for a medal again.
Gold for Herrmann
Aside from Reztsova’s brief surge, the fight for the medals took place without our involvement. As is typical in the individual race, the advantage went to those who worked best on the shooting range. Almost everyone missed, except Ukrainian Petrenko, who wasn’t very fast, so the victory went to German Denise Herrmann, who made only one miss. This is Denise’s second Olympic medal, and her first she earned in 2014 in… the ski relay! Despite not shining on the World Cup this season, she grabbed her chance at the Olympics and became the Olympic champion.
Yeah, really surprising – Russia hadn’t had a medal in this discipline for 54 years.
