Hello everyone.

Unfortunately, my old thread was shut down, but the administration gave me the green light to run my blog about movies, music, and books. So today is the launch!

A long time ago on Neverfold, I ran a thread like this for many years, where I mostly posted movie reviews. I’m more of a fan of Russian cinema, but sometimes Scandinavian stuff clicks with me too.

I’ll start with what I’m expecting and planning to watch. First, the series:

1. The second part of “Likhie“. One of my favorite Russian directors is Yuri Bykov, so I can’t skip his work.
2. Method-3. I’m looking forward to it for the same reason as in the first item.
3. Otpechatki. I watch every series about maniacs.
4. Tunnel. Apparently, in the series the husband loses money and needs to get it back. A familiar topic for us, worth watching).
5. Heat. I’m watching it because of Vorobyov.
6. Ugolyok. I’m just hoping for an interesting, realistic series.
7. Comeback. I didn’t want to watch it because of Petrov, he’s already gotten on my nerves. But people are raving about the series everywhere, so I need to check it out
8. Berlin Heat. I’m watching it only because of the lead actors, I don’t really like the plot itself.

Bar “One Call”.

I watched the series in one go last night. At first I was very biased against it because of Danila Kozlovsky’s role. But, as it turned out, I was wrong. He was simply stunning. The black humor in this series is top-tier in his performance.

So far this series has entered my top 3 of the year on all counts. It left a real “aftertaste”: I haven’t felt such a great lingering feeling after watching something in a long time.

And plus, the show raises a really cool topic and there’s a lot to think about after watching, about how everything was presented.

Director – Sergey Filatov. This year he already had a cool little series “The Lesson” with Yuri Borisov, which I also finished in one night. And he didn’t disappoint here either!

The Likhie series is not bad, but there are plenty of goofs. Plastic windows, intercoms, new cars in the ’90s really hurt the eyes).

The Method died after season 1.

Urok is pretty good, although I might be biased because of Borisov after “Centaur”.

I’ll take note of the bar “One Call”.

The bar One Call is similar to Likhie in this way: lots of goofs too, but because of the plot and the continuous action you close your eyes to those mistakes.

About the film “LIKHIE “

This series can never compare to “Slovom patsana”. Gloom – it’s just gloom, and director Yuri Bykov stays true to himself in “Likhie”. He made a heavy, viscous, bleak and meaningless movie about the nastiness of life.

That’s just my personal opinion 👁️

@dimakulakov​ well Bykov always makes films like that). So, I think there’s no need to compare this series to “Slovo Patsana” – two different series, made in their own ways.

So “The Guy’s Word” isn’t about the nastiness of life?

Is it “guy-like” to take the hat off a poor teacher? Who for pennies tries to teach a bunch of idiots something.

Or maybe steal USA caps that the same shopgirl will later have to pay for? And she might have a family, and those caps cost like 2-3 of her paychecks. Because of those “cool guys,” her children, instead of food and winter shoes, will end up paying back the debt for the caps.

Or is it “guy-like” to gang up and squeeze money out of some poor bastard?

Or “guy-like” to mob and beat a single kid at the bus stop?

Or was it “guy-like” to rape Aigul, and then other cool guys pushed her to Roskomnadzor.

These same guys call other people scumbags, although by their actions they are the same themselves.

A propaganda of nastiness, rats, bio-trash and other filth.

I’d like to say a bit about Bykov’s films. What I personally like about him is exactly the way he shows all that “blackness, gloom, a dead end in life.” Everyone sees something different in that blackness: to some it seems meaningless, but others, facing something like that every day, grasp and get the director’s point.

Everyone sees what they want to see. In that sense, I always point to “A Serbian Film” as an example, where for some reason most people see messed-up porn and brutality, while actually it’s showing something completely different.

Unfortunately, “A Guy’s Word” is a series that completely passed me by. If I’d been a teenager – maybe I would’ve liked it. By comparison, where everything’s filmed cooler, for me there’s no question – it’s Bykov’s “Likhie”.

I would check Method 3)

I recommend everyone watch the movie Gambler. Pretty interesting and the plot isn’t bad. A story about a compulsive gambler whose life went off the rails because of gambling

@konstantin86​ btw, a lot of gamblers have stories like that – you could come up with tons of plots for movies and TV shows.

By the way, about the grim crap in TV series. I came across a review by some popular TikToker about the series “Vortex”. He praised it so much, like it was practically the series of the year. Decided to watch. I thought it would be a mysterious thriller about a maniac, as it was presented. In reality it turned out to be something else…

I’ve seen a lot of shitty series, but this is just “speechless”. A talentless rip-off of Western shows of that type. Just pure grim sleaze with inappropriate, primitive swearing and a ton of fucking scenes. Propaganda of everything possible: everyone is getting high on drugs, no one cares; they’re chain-smoking one after another, not even taking the cig out of their mouths.

The characters’ posturing is something else entirely. A dull plot with a bunch of undeveloped characters. Don’t get me started on the soundtrack: most of the tracks absolutely don’t fit the series.

Some people put it well about this series: “The feeling is like you accidentally stepped in shit” or “It felt like other people made it, but for some reason I was ashamed watching it.”

Plus, like most Russian series, the ending turned out to be simply talentless.
