In 2021, PokerStars was named the best poker room by EGR Operator

On November 25, 2021, the awards ceremony for the most famous prize in the online gambling industry, the EGR Operator Awards, took place. For the fifth time, PokerStars was named the best poker room.

Last year, this award was held online for the first time because of COVID restrictions. This time, it returned to London’s Grosvenor House. In all, more than a hundred different gaming companies competed for victory in 31 categories.

This was already the 11th such awards ceremony, and Stars had won the category four times so far, from 2014 to 2016 and in 2020. However, among the nominees we will probably never see the GGNetwork, because only public companies whose shares are traded on the stock exchange and whose sites provide access to financial reporting can take part in the contest.

So since 2010, only three rooms have received this award. PKR got the very first one, and after that the only competition for the Red Spade came from partypoker and 888poker. Interestingly, this time Party was not even included in the list of 5 contenders, although the room’s owner, the Entain holding company, ended up being named the best gaming operator of the year.

There was also an oddity, and it is hard even to guess how it happened. Among the nominees, besides those already listed and Kindred Group (Unibet), Quadrific Media (Spartan Poker) and Vbet, was the brand – «Murka Games». This is a Ukrainian studio that develops mobile apps, made its name with slots, and according to public sources has nothing to do with online poker.

On the EGR Operator Awards website, the choice of this particular room was commented on with the following line:

It is also worth remembering that this year Stars is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and that fact most likely played an important role too in the room being named the best poker operator of 2021.
