By 2024, rechargeable batteries in smartphones, scooters, and electric bicycles must be designed so that they can be easily replaced by consumers themselves or by repair specialists. Members of the European Parliament backed new rules that regulate the entire life cycle of a battery.
The new rules on batteries in Europe will also take into account the carbon footprint from the production, collection, recycling, and use of battery contents.
