A female Italian citizen is trying to sue a Vietnamese casino for her $2.4 million win. The amount was confirmed by the company, local media report. Earlier the casino paid out $440k. The Italian woman filed a lawsuit against the Vietnamese casino Kien Giang’s Phu Quoc Island, where she previously hit a $2.4 million jackpot. Her winnings were supposed to be paid over several transactions, but so far the winner has only received $440k.
According to a lawsuit against the company Kongkon, filed on October 11, 2021, the anonymous woman visited the resort to play cards during the period from May 30 to June 9 of last year. Kongkon operates Corona Resort & Casino Phu Quoc.
Kongkon has not yet handed over the rest of the money to the Italian woman, 44.6 billion VND. The woman repeatedly asked the company to pay her, but to no avail. She is now suing the company to have it pay her the money plus interest, which amounts to about 1.4 billion VND as of October 11, 2021.
On January 10 the People’s Court of Kien Giang agreed to hear the case.
Vietnam, which regards gambling as a “social evil”, first allowed Vietnamese citizens to visit casinos in 2019. Corona Casino is the only one open to locals. There are five other casinos in Vietnam, but they are reserved only for holders of foreign passports.
