ONEIDA, Wisconsin (WBAY/Gray News) – A couple from Wisconsin won a Powerball jackpot of $316.3 million.
Tammy and Cliff Webster bought the winning ticket at a Citgo in Green Bay, WBAY reports.
The Websters chose the lump-sum cash payment of $225.1 million instead of the annual payments. After $54 million in federal taxes and $17.2 million in state taxes, they will take home $153.9 million.
“We are truly grateful for this incredible event,” Tammy said. “We always believed we had a chance to win if we played, and this is a dream come true.”
The drawing was Jan. 5, and the winning numbers on the ticket were 6, 14, 25, 33 and 46 with a Powerball of 17. The couple found out they were Wisconsin’s new millionaires while watching the morning news. Like most people, they didn’t think the odds would be in their favor.
“All the way to the kitchen table I kept muttering, ‘Do you know how many people play in Wisconsin, what are our chances of winning?'” Tammy said.
Since 1992, Wisconsin has had 19 Powerball jackpots won, the fourth-most among states.
