Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vitaly Milonov called for cancelling the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day in Russia. According to him, holding this holiday is unacceptable both in government institutions and in schools.
He noted that holding events timed to this holiday is not the result of great wisdom.
“St. Valentine’s Day should not exist either in schools or in government institutions. We are not Papuans to stage a cargo-cult of a well-fed Western life,” Milonov said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
He clarified that this holiday has nothing to do with either cultural or spiritual context of the event.
Let’s cancel Easter too. A made-up holiday, it has no cultural or spiritual meaning. Nothing but trouble. And the Church can go there too. And New Year.
