Kristin Lawson admits she is “a little nervous” about the idea of becoming British Columbia’s new multimillionaire.

On October 21 Lawson claimed her $70 million jackpot from the Lotto Max draw on September 28. Lawson picked the numbers with a Quick Pick and bought the ticket – along with a pack of peanuts – at the Shoppers Drug Mart on Hastings Street.

“I just thought, ‘Why not buy a ticket?'” – Lawson said in a BCLC press release. “I definitely dreamed about this, but I never thought it would actually happen. You never think it will.”

As soon as Lawson realized she had won, after checking the ticket at home, she first shared the news with her roommate and then with her father.

…First she will contact her financial advisor, and then, she says, she will pass some of the prize on to her closest relatives. She says she has lots of ideas and causes close to her heart, and it will take some time before she decides how to handle her new wealth.

“I’m both nervous and excited,” she said. “I can’t fully process all of this right now. I’m so excited about what’s to come.”
