In the final and decisive match of the 2022 World Cup qualifying cycle the Ukraine national team secured a crucial away victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina (2:0).
In the first half Oleksandr Petrakov’s side controlled the game and created several dangerous moments, but failed to score, while the Bosnians had a couple of decent counterattacks.
In the middle of the second half the “blue-and-yellows” opened the scoring when in the 39th minute Yarmolenko failed to finish off a cross from the left flank by Tsygankov at the near post, but the ball bounced to Zinchenko, who fired into the empty net.
Twenty minutes later substitute Shaparenko played a great pass to Dovbyk, who broke free from the defenders and calmly slotted into the near corner, doubling Ukraine’s lead. A little later Dobvyk could have completed a brace, but his execution let him down when shooting at the empty goal with a defender on him.
Thus, Ukraine finished second in Group D and will take part in the World Cup 2022 playoffs in March. This was also helped by the fact that in the parallel match France beat Finland 2:0, sending the Finns down to third place.
That’s how it was meant to be: the Ukrainians beat the Bosnians, and the French beat the Finns, and what’s more, with the same score…
When one team beats another in an important match, and away, and keeps a clean sheet, for the fans it’s more than a celebration!
Fans have even more questions and don’t understand why the national team created such problems for itself. Although they could have sorted everything out earlier.
Yeah, kinda, but… But here’s the thing, first we create problems and then heroically solve them)
