The Tverskoy Court of Moscow has banned Instagram and Facebook in Russia “for extremist activity,” TASS reports. The ban takes effect immediately.
Prosecutor Timur Abregov explained that users of Facebook and Instagram will not be criminally prosecuted simply for having accounts or communicating through them.
Placing ads on both social networks or trading Meta shares could be classified as financing extremist activity, which already carries criminal liability.
