UEFA to start new phase in fight against match-fixing on match outcomes

UEFA and FIFPRO have signed an agreement that will start a new phase in the fight against match-fixing on event outcomes. This concerns the use of information that players submit anonymously through the special Red Button app.

The cooperation agreement was signed by the football bodies UEFA and FIFPRO. According to information on UEFA’s official website, information from the Red Button app will now be actively used in the fight against match-fixing, allowing dishonest sporting events to be prevented by identifying their likelihood in advance.

The Red Button app was first launched in Finland almost 10 years ago. It became an important achievement for FIFPRO in preventing match-fixing. With the help of the special software, players can anonymously submit information about potentially dishonest matches. To download the app, you need to get a code from the players’ union that is part of FIFPRO.

Under the new agreement, FIFPRO will now be able to share data from Red Button with UEFA. As UEFA representatives note, the cooperation of the entire football community and the use of modern channels for information transfer to detect violations are crucial in eliminating corruption schemes.
