Last week PS solemnly announced a rake increase, and already this week playing in the biggest room became a bit more expensive. Daniel Negreanu commented on this news. He didn’t defend his employers.

“PS offer a service and, of course, have every right to set a price for that service. If they ask too high a price, customers will stop using it; if the price is too low, the company will lose profit,” Negreanu explained the basics of running a service business.
Recall that on March 28 PS increased rake in Spin and Go (+ 1% – 2%), introduced rake on rebuys and add-ons, raised the fee in hyper-turbo MTTs (up to 5%), and also increased the commission percentage and caps for cash tables for no-limit and pot-limit games (mostly heads-up).
“I’ve been playing poker for more than twenty years and never complained about rake, but I understand why some players still do it. Once I played in Toronto at $10\$20 tables and we paid $10 for each hand. In addition, the dealer each time got about $2.5 in tips. Despite such a high rake, the games were very good and not only for the organizers. When I stopped beating that huge rake, I simply found another game. There were fewer weak opponents there, it became harder to play, but the rake was much lower: only $5 for half an hour of play, four times less than what I used to pay.”

Daniel sympathizes with the affected players. He understands that some will have to leave their favorite disciplines and look for a new place in the sun.
” Rake increases have nothing to do with ‘improving the ecosystem’, they pursue only one goal – to increase the company’s revenues. When you set a price for a service, you need to find the ideal balance that on one hand would allow you to get maximum profit, and on the other – would not drive customers away from you”.
Nevertheless, Daniel still believes in PS:
“The company offers the best product on the market. It seems to me that the price for the services holds up against competition from other rooms, but the final decision is up to you”.
