Due to budget cuts over the past two years, the program will not be completed within the previously planned timeframe.
The US space agency doubts the feasibility of landing astronauts on the Moon in 2024. The possibility was assessed by acting NASA director Steve Jurczyk in aninterview with ArsTechnica.
He called underfunding the main problem in implementing the program.
“The goal of landing on the Moon in 2024 may no longer be realistic because appropriations over the last two years have not provided sufficient funding to make 2024 achievable. In light of this we are reviewing the program to find the most effective path forward,” Jurczyk explained.
He added that the administration of new president Joe Biden supports the goals of the Artemis program.
“We look forward to the next steps. We intend to fully ensure continuity of the main purpose of this program,” the head of NASA emphasized.

Very interesting. So more than 50 years ago, when computer processing power was weaker than modern Chinese calculators that cost 25 rubles, it was doable, and now suddenly it’s not. Looks like the Yanks are being shady.
